Hurricane Irene is expected to impact the New York area beginning Sunday, August 28.
In the interest of safety, Adelphi University has cancelled all programs and activities scheduled for August 28th, and is changing its New Student Move-in-Day for residential students to Monday, August 29th from 1:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.
Matriculation Day and Parent Orientation, originally scheduled for Monday has been re-scheduled to Tuesday, August 30 in the Center for Recreation and Sports. Check-in takes place at 12:15 p.m.
From Provost Gayle Insler:
"Because of Hurricane Irene, Matriculation has been moved toTuesday, August 30 at 1:15 pm. I know that Monday’s weather is predicted to be good, but Move-In Day and the start of new student/parent programming was scheduled to begin Sunday, and because of the weather, we do not want our Freshmen and their families to be traveling Sunday.
I look forward to seeing you Tuesday August 30 as we begin a new semester. Hopefully our area will escape serious consequences from the hurricane, and we can begin the term with all good things to look forward to.
Many thanks for your understanding and cooperation."
Adelphi University’s Emergency Response Team is meeting regularly and is closely monitoring reports from regional emergency management offices and taking appropriate actions to keep the campus community safe.
We understand that these schedule changes may cause some inconvenience for you and your family, and we sincerely apologize, but the safety of our students, faculty, and staff is our first priority.
